I finally finished this quilt last night. I had hopes of finishing it last year, but better late than never. My next quilt top top to quilt is a scrappy string star quilt. I used colors that are not my usual picks. My husband is always saying you need to make brighter quilts, so I went for it. I was hoping it would empty my box of scraps, but that didn’t seem to happen, so I guess there are more scrap quilts in my future. Since I am outside of my element, with these colors, I am not sure what color or colors of thread I should use. I would love to hear any and all input that you have on the subject. Help????
scrap boxes for some reason I have found never get empty no matter how hard you try :) pretty quilt
ReplyDeleteI am afraid you are right, but I plan to keep on trying. I love coming across a bit of a favorite fabric, such memories they have.
DeleteAs a hand-quilter and an out-of-the-box longarmer, I would use green on the brown and vice versa. Or maybe a nice gold/orange color.
ReplyDeleteLove your finished quilt! Beautiful! And your string quilt is lovely too. I would go for a contrasting color of thread on that, but your choices are definitely many.:)
ReplyDeleteI agree, there are so many choices. I plan on getting the thread box out and see what happens, a suggestion I got from Pepper Cory.
DeleteLOL ........... scraps just seem to multiply whenever we are not looking ...... I think you should try a varigated thread in golds or greens for that quilt.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to go thread shopping
Deletewhen in doubt i always reach for cream....it's unobtrusive color wise and would lend itself to the browns, etc. and scraps multiply at night, we all know it for sure!
ReplyDeletei think a nice blue, maybe even variegated, would be nice. not the norm, but not too dark for the green. wouldnt want to muddy up that outstanding green! i am not fond of light thread on dark either, so that would eliminate a bunch of options on the brown. have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteIf that were my quilt, I think I'd go with a light brown/tan thread. Sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhat about green on the brown and brown thread on the green so you can see your quilting?!?
